Price is definitely an important factor to consider when choosing an alarm company, but it shouldn’t be the only main reason for selecting a home alarm system.
Here are some things to look for in a home security company:
- Are they Licensed? In Victoria both the alarm company and the individual installer need to hold a security license. The licenses are issued by the Licensing Division of Victoria Police – http://www.police.vic.gov.au/content.asp?Document_ID=109 and are only issued to persons of good character with no criminal convictions. This is pretty important when you consider that both the installer and the alarm company will have access to information about you and your alarm system.
- Locally owned and operated. Look for a company that controls all aspects of the system – from sales to installation to service. Some alarm companies are really just sales offices who sub-contract the actual installation out to an installer or another security company.
- Satisfied Customers. A reputable company will not hesitate to provide testimonials from satisfied customers. Its a good idea to ask for references or read comments from previous customers so you know you can depend on the installer and their work.
- 24 Hour Service. No matter how good the equipment or how good the installer is there may be time when something goes wrong with your system and you need it fixed – quickly! A reputable home security company that is truly committed to their business wont leave you waiting til Monday to get the problem fixed.
